Is there a connection between numerology and tarot reading?

Tarot readings come with a great amount of symbols and each of them can be interpreted in a few different ways, depending on what you’re after. Tarot readings and numerology often go hand in hand. Websites like Tarotoo offer free tarot readings everyone can try.

While mysterious at first, the truth is they have numerous meanings to help you get an insight into the reading.

The thing with numerology is it’s different from other esoteric practices. Whether it comes to kabbalah or perhaps astrology, most of these things can be connected to one another. Numerology is different, though.

But then, if used accordingly, numerology can actually help when getting a reading. Here’s everything you need to know.

But first, a few words about tarot numerology

Tarot numerology is fairly simple to understand. It relates to how you find meaning in numbers associated with cards. Sure, each card has its own specs, but the truth is numbers are just as important in the process.

Take the Major Arcana, for example. Cards are numbered to 21. On the other hand, the Minor Arcana features cards up to 10. Although every book has a meaning, understanding these numbers can help the reader gain a deeper insight into the reading.

There are more ways to understand numerology in tarot readings, and each advisor has their own way to do it. Most commonly, these ideologies can be western or eastern. There are quite a few similarities, but there are even more differences between them.

Numerology mainly relates to the first nine numbers, single digits. The problem is some cards have double digit numbers. In this case, they must be added together again and again until there’s only one digit. If you get number 19, it can be reduced to 10 (1+9), which can be reduced to 1 (1+0).

How to Use Numerology in Tarot Reading

How to use numerology in a tarot reading depends on more factors, but most importantly, it depends on the psychic advisor and yourself. You can usually take notes during a reading, meaning you can only grab the main details.

Once at home, you can do the numerology part yourself, unless your reader is actually specialized in it.

Again, there are a few ideologies in numerology and choosing the right one is a matter of personal preferences. The secret is not necessarily in the actual interpretation, but in applying the right numerological meaning to the original tarot interpretation.

To keep it simple, numbers shouldn’t overcome the messages associated with tarot reading. Instead, they should enhance these readings. They should provide more details and a deeper understanding of the reading.

For instance, imagine getting the Eight of Swords in the future position, meaning you’re gaining some strengths. On the other hand, the actual number is also associated with hard work for long-term security. It doesn’t mean that the number is more important than the actual card.

Instead, the interpretation means that you’re building strength with hard work, clearing your beliefs and pushing hard to see some results in the long run. The actual number enhances the card’s meaning, simple as that.

Zero and Its Meaning

Zero is often overlooked in tarot numerology and for some simple reasons. The number signifies nothing, and that’s exactly why most readers don’t even bother about it.

It’s represented on The Fool card in the Major Arcana. In this particular case, it’s associated with eternity or better said, infinity. The concept is not fully developed, meaning there’s a bit of a potential in this number, but nothing important.

Despite its lack of importance, zero is actually quite powerful. It’s designed as a circle, which defines a cycle. Such cycles are powerful because they exist everywhere. There’s no disruption whatsoever, but a strong symbol that summons whatever the reading is about.

Other Meanings of Numbers in Tarot Readings

Reducing double digits to single digits isn’t everything when considering numerology in tarot readings. There are other methods to approach this concept. For instance, each digit may have its own unique energy.

Imagine getting a reading, one for the past and one for the present. You get the Three of Pentacles, as well as The Hanged Man. At this point, your reading can go in two different directions.

Reach number 6 by doing 3+12 and then 1+5. This number is responsible for the whole reading. It’s associated with achievement, but also with love. This kind of information can be applied to the actual tarot cards. You’ll have to find the path of love and achievement based on the cards.

On the other hand, you can also adopt a different type of reading. You can apply the properties of 3 to the actual Three of Pentacles. As for The Hanged Man, you can add 1+2 and reach the same number 3, which you can apply to the properties of this card.

This isn’t everything, though. You can skip all the mathematical operations completely and take each digit as it is. This means you can apply the capabilities of numbers 1 and 2 to The Hanged Man, as well as the properties of 3 to the Three of Pentacles.

In this last case, 1 refers to creation, while 2 refers to harmony. These meanings can be mixed into the tarot meaning.

Winding Up this Article on Numerology in Tarot Readings

The good news is that while there are more types of interpretations when it comes to numerology in tarot, the actual properties of numbers between 0 and 9 are general and almost always the same.

These are only a few examples, but just like you might have guessed already, you can find deeper and more intense reading routines. What works for some people won’t work for everyone else, and different tarot readers have different ways to interpret cards.

Bottom line, there is, indeed, a solid connection between numerology and tarot. None of them cancels the other one, though. Instead of using one or the other, many psychic readers simply choose to mix them up in order to find a deeper meaning to each reading.

It does take time to find these connections, but it’s totally worth it.
